Services

Newline Software is a UK software development company. We cover the whole life of a system: bespoke software development from the first scoping conversation, through construction and release, to the years of support that follow.

What we do

Each service has its own page describing the work it usually covers and who it suits. Most engagements draw on more than one.
  1. Bespoke software

Systems designed around a specific business and its processes, where a packaged product would need too many workarounds to be worth the licence. Order management, scheduling, quoting and internal tooling.Read more
  2. Web applications

Browser-based applications for staff and customers, built to be secure, quick and straightforward to maintain. Written so that another competent developer could take them over later without our help.Read more
  3. APIs and integration

Connecting the systems a business already runs so that information moves between them without re-keying. Accounts packages, CRMs, warehouse systems, payment providers and third-party APIs.Read more
  4. Cloud and modernisation

Moving applications and data to Microsoft Azure or AWS with a costed plan, in stages that can be tested and reversed. Reducing the cost of cloud estates that have grown larger than the business needs.Read more
  5. Mobile applications

iOS and Android applications that share a backend with your web systems. One set of business rules and one source of data across every device your staff and customers use.Read more
  6. Legacy systems

Taking over software whose original developers have moved on. We document it, stabilise it, and then improve or replace it at a pace the business can absorb, without a risky big-bang rewrite.Read more
  7. Technical consultancy

Architecture reviews, technology selection, supplier assessment and part-time technical leadership for companies that need senior direction but not a full-time CTO or an in-house team.Read more
  8. Support and maintenance

Ongoing monitoring, fixes and small improvements under a monthly agreement, so that the systems we build, and some we did not, carry on working as the business changes around them.Read more

How engagements are shaped

The person you speak to first is the person who scopes the work and builds it. Whichever shape the engagement takes, you own the source code, the documentation and the infrastructure from the first day.

Fixed price

Where the scope is clear we quote a fixed price for the whole piece of work, agreed before anything starts. You receive a written plan and estimate, and if something changes during the project you hear about it from us first. No open-ended time and materials.

Fixed monthly, retained

Where the scope is still being worked out, or the work is ongoing, we charge a fixed monthly amount against an agreed list of priorities, reviewed with you each month. This is how we run support and maintenance and most long-running development. It can be ended with notice.

Consultancy

Reviews, technology selection and supplier assessment are scoped as a short piece of work with a written report at the end. Part-time technical leadership is an agreed number of days each month, for as long as it is useful and no longer.

Not sure which of these you need?

Tell us what you are trying to build or fix. A short call is usually enough to say whether we can help and which of these it would involve.
